Clayworks Gallery on E Sixth St., Austin, Texas

Clayworks Gallery 1209 E Sixth St., Austin, Texas

It’s all about mud.  As fresh and ancient, as simple and mysterious, as fleeting and eternal as mud.  We shape this most common of materials, embellish it and fire it.  The product includes tile, sconces, murals and more in the line of architectural ceramics.  Plain as mud.

A visitor who wonders how it is done need only ask for an impromptu tour.  On any particular day you might find us mixing clay, glazing tiles, making sconces, or loading a kiln.  We also apply the art of calligraphy to clay by hand inscribing plaques and tiles.

We have been practicing the art and craft of architectural ceramics in the same location for the past 30 years.  The style we’ve developed  reflects the spirit and the palette of  Austin, Texas.  As well as sconces and tiles, our gallery is stocked with wheel pottery, sunfaces, planters and tile tables, all made and fired on the premises.  Our staff includes owners Chris and John Gray as well as Stewart Gray, Angelica Fabian and Jose Sanchez.
