Fair Trade

john-compostOur next door neighbor Buenos Aires Cafe is saving vegetable scraps and peelings for our compost pile.  In return, we’ll share the herbs we grow in our shop garden with the restaurant.  Once the heat relents, we should have plenty of mint, parsley, thyme, sage and rosemary to share.  By the way, even the potato peels from the BA Cafe smell delicious.

What a sweet trade-off! The image of my father dumping scraps into his compost pile, however, evokes memories of the time the circus was in town and he was on the local news shoveling elephant dung for his then compost pile.

Some things never change…though they do get better. I bet those potatoe peels smell better than the elephant dung did.
